and bodies...
I hesitate to use skin as an emblem in my photography. But as I mature, water and my ever evolving body seem to go hand in hand. And it can be a love, hate thing.
Those of us on the grey side of our lives grow into a fine appreciation of a hot shower or long soak to help ease joints tired of performing their job. Seeking rejuvenation, we drink. Bodies grown too heavy, we allow our weight to be buoyed. Days of dust and work are cleansed.
We drink. We heal. We relax.
Then I think of swim suits and pools that used to entice us on a warm summer day. They can fill us with fear and shame as we age and our shapes change.
Well, at least they do for me.
The cool water hits like a shock more than it ever does in our youth. Yet, to take the plunge and let the world slip away under the surface, I'll brave it still now and then.
Water seems ever a duality any more. It is cool and tempestuous. It is clear and murky. It is sustaining and ending. It can be life itself or bring us to our maker.
For now, the daily hot soaks will continue to loosen joints grown stiff. Find me visiting a cool body of water in nature somewhere to cool my feet.
You can then mark me happy.
