A new series focusing on the changing rights of women in the 21st century
The use of black and white film, a vintage camera, and harsh lighting were deliberate choices to emphasize the collision of 21st century possibilities with the constraints of historic processes and the need to bring things into a brighter light.
The series concept originated with the overthrowing of 'Roe v. Wade' in 2023. When I stumbled across some broken and very old telephone poles, the idea formed to integrate women in alley settings, a well worn cocktail style dress, and objects speaking to how women adapt to new state regulations and laws dating back a century or more in some cases.
The series will evolve to include sets of 4 images, each in a new location and speaking to ways women's bodies have been anything but their own historically.
